Opie and Anthony Akin to Playboy Channel!

This is response to the recent controversy that has arisen in response to Homeless Charlie's comments on the Opie and Anthony show. I am not going to address the comments directly because they are irrelevant to the debate. What needs to be discussed is where such content is allowed socially and legally.

This content was aired on XM satellite radio on a Explicate Language / Content (XL) channel. This channel can be blocked by subscribers at any time during their subscription. This can be done both online and via phone and is described every hour on the XL channels. This was not aired on terrestrial radio, but on a pay-service.

Furthermore, content such as the Playboy Channel exists on both Sirius satellite radio and cable and television satellite providers. I see no difference between the content that Opie and Anthony provide via their subscription service and the content that Playboy provides via their own subscription service.

These issues need to be addressed as many commentators regarding this issue have glossed over this fact. They are attacking the statements that were made solely on the fact that they disagree with the content. They do not address the context or means of delivery of the content, which is very important in this matter.
